You Can’t Pour from an empty cup

Self care encompasses anything that you do for yourself to support your physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being, it acts as daily health maintenance.

You Can’t Pour from an empty cup - take care of yourself first. Self care isn’t selfish!

Try and make time for a little self care every day - this will be different for everyone, there’s no one right thing to do, just make sure it makes you happy!! There are literally hundreds of ideas for self-care on the internet so here are just a few of my favorites!

  • give yourself a manicure and/or pedicure

  • have a bubble bath

  • try a face mask

  • read

  • journal

  • exercise

  • go for a walk

  • enjoy your favorite cup of tea or coffee in silence

  • listen to a podcast

  • reorganize a closet

  • meditate

  • dance

  • play your favorite song

  • watch your favorite movie or tv show (mine is Friends!)

  • give yourself a high 5 (check out Mel Robbins book The High 5 Habit)

  • do a puzzle

  • take a course on something you’re interested in

  • cook something new

For me right now, self-care means learning to love and believe in myself. It’s not an easy process! I have to work on it every day! I’ve started a couple of new things to help with this. Firstly I’m slowing down - instead of doing a cardio or strength workout every day I am doing some yoga or Pilates, I feel this helps calm me and sets me up for a good start to the day. Next I journal. I’m not very good at using a blank journal, I will just sit and stare at a blank page! I instead bought a guided journal (The High 5 Journal by Mel Robbins). It doesn’t take long to complete but gets me in the right mindset.

You have to find what works for you - and don’t forget - you’re awesome!!
